Division I Women's Soccer Committee Duties & Responsibilities

COMMITTEE INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY SERVING ON NCAA COMMITTEES

NUMBER OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

10 (one from each of the six regions plus four at-large members)

GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

Championship season, including selections:

Serve as chairs of respective regional committees.
Evaluate teams throughout the season.
Participate on numerous regional and national conference calls.
Assist other committee members with the selection of teams and creation of the bracket at an in-person selection meeting in Indianapolis.
Assign crews of officials to work the playoff games.
Staff selected playoff games.
Attend the NCAA Women?s College Cup.

Nonchampionship season:

Develop and review agenda items for annual meeting.
Attend annual meeting.
Set up regional advisory committees for the upcoming season.
Participate on conference calls as needed.

CHAMPIONSHIP DATES AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES/NUMBER OF DAYS YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND:

Attend the entire Women?s College Cup championship week (arriving on Wednesday afternoon and leaving either on Sunday evening or Monday morning). The championship is held the first full weekend in December (Friday and Sunday.)

Attend selected preliminary round playoff games. Committee members usually arrive the day before competition to attend practices and chair the coaches? meeting and leave after the game. Committee member acts as the NCAA representative at these games. Preliminary-round games are the three full weekends prior to the national championship weekend.

NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR:

Attend the selection meeting in Indianapolis in November (arrive on either Friday or Saturday the first full weekend in November through Monday).

Attend the annual committee meeting in February (four days, Monday-Thursday, usually during the second full week in February).

The chair attends the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention (two days during second full week of January).

NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR:

Committee members are required to participate on regional advisory committee calls prior to each national call and approximately five national committee calls (September-November) prior to selection. The national calls are generally on Thursdays.

Committee members also participate on conference calls (typically on Sunday nights) following each round of competition during the championship.

The chair participates on approximately three additional calls with the local organizing committee for the current year?s championship.

OTHER COMMENTS:

For the administrators on the committee, it is helpful if they have a soccer background (e.g., coach, player, etc.) or if they oversee the sport on their campus.
