Division II Men's Soccer Committee Duties & Responsibilities

COMMITTEE INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY SERVING ON NCAA COMMITTEES

NUMBER OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:  

 GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

• Championship season, including selections:
  • Serve as chairs of respective regional committees.  
  • Evaluate teams throughout the season using online-based ranking system.
  • Participate on numerous regional and national telephone conferences.
  • Assist other committee members with the selection of teams.
  • Assign officials for preliminary rounds and finals (with assistance from NISOA).
  • Serve as NCAA site representative at selected preliminary-round games.
  • Attend the Division II Men's Soccer Championship.
• Nonchampionship season:
  • Develop and review agenda items for annual meeting.
  • Attend annual meeting.
  • Participate on telephone conferences as needed. 
• As needed:
  • Report information to regional advisory committees and conference members.
    

CHAMPIONSHIP DATES AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES/NUMBER OF DAYS YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND:

• Attend the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship (arriving two days prior to the start of the championship and leaving after the conclusion of the event.)  The championship is held the first full weekend in December (Thursday-Saturday or Friday-Sunday).  
• Attend selected preliminary rounds.  Committee members serve as site representatives in their respective regions for first- and second-round games.  Additionally, four committee members will serve as site representatives at the quarterfinal round.  Committee members typically arrive the day prior to the start of the respective preliminary round to attend practices and conduct a pretournament meeting.  They will depart after the conclusion of the event. 
  

NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR:  

• Attend the annual committee meeting in February (four days during the second week in February).  
• The chair attends the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention (two days during second week of January).
• The chair attends a meeting with the Division II Championships Committee (two days during the second or third week in September.
• The chair also attends site visits to selected championship sites as needed (two or three days in December or January).
  

NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR:

• Committee members are required to participate on four regional advisory committee calls and four national committee calls (weekly in October and November) prior to selection.  The regional calls are generally on Monday.  The national calls are on Tuesday.  These calls typically last 60 to 90 minutes.
• Committee members also participate on the selection call, which takes place the Monday prior to the start of first-round competition.  The selection call may take several hours.
• After the conclusion of the first and second rounds, the committee conducts a telephone conference to select quarterfinal sites.  This call lasts approximately 60 minutes.
• Prior to the start of the season, committee members are requested to participate in an orientation call in October.
  

OTHER COMMENTS:  

• Regional advisory committee experience is preferred, but not required.
• Basic computer and e-mail skills are encouraged.
