Division I Softball Committee Duties & Responsibilities

COMMITTEE INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY SERVING ON NCAA COMMITTEES

NUMBER OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

Championship season, including selections:
- Serve as chairs of respective regional committees.
- Evaluate teams throughout the season.
- Participate on numerous regional and national conference calls.
- Assist other committee members with the selection of teams and creation of the bracket. In-person selections the third weekend in May.
- Staff selected regional and super-regional competition (Last two weekends in May/early June).
- Attend the Division I Women?s Softball Championship (first week of June)
Nonchampionship season:
- Develop and review agenda items for annual meeting.
- Attend annual meeting. (Second week of July)
- Set up regional advisory committees for the upcoming season.
- Participate on conference calls as needed.

CHAMPIONSHIP DATES AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES/NUMBER OF DAYS YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND:

Attend the entire Women?s College World Series (arriving Tuesday evening and leaving Wednesday or Thursday morning following the championship). The championship is held the first Thursday through Wednesday in June.
Attend selected preliminary rounds. There are 16 regional sites and 8 super-regional sites. Committee members usually arrive on Wednesday to attend practices and leave after the matches on Saturday or early Sunday. Committee member acts as the NCAA representative at these rounds. Regional rounds start the last week of May.

NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR:

Attend the annual committee meeting in July (four days during the second week in July).

NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR:

Committee members are required to participate on four regional advisory committee calls and four national committee calls (biweekly in April and May) prior to selection. The regional calls are generally on Wednesday. The national calls are on Thursday.
