Division II Men's and Women's Track & Field Committee Duties & Responsibilities
COMMITTEE INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY SERVING ON NCAA COMMITTEES
NUMBER OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
- The NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee consists of eight members including four representing men's track and four representing women's track. The committee must comprise at least 50 percent coaches.
GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
- Championship season including selections:
- The committee shall serve as the games committee to actively supervise the conduct of the Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The purpose of the committee is to give assistance, direction and guidance to the meet director in administering the championship prior to and during the championships.
- Serve as chairs of respective regional committees.
- Evaluate proof of performance list periodically.
- Participate on national conference calls.
- Recommend officials to work the championships.
- Participate in the selection of qualifies to participate in the championships.
- Attend the Track and Field annual meeting.
- Nonchampionship season:
- Serve as the committee representative for assigned region.
- Solicit ideas and solutions to issues surrounding the championships.
- Assist in assuring that the student-athlete experience and Division II philosophy is being met for all three championships.
- Develop and review agenda items for the annual meeting.
- Attend the annual meeting.
- Revising and updating the championships handbook and other materials.
- Participate on conference calls as needed.
- Determining the host institution and site of the championships.
- Arranging for the officials for the competition.
- Supervising practices, meetings and tournament competition.
- Determining the schedule and format for the championships.
- Perform those duties as directed by the Division II Championships Committee
CHAMPIONSHIP DATES AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES/NUMBER OF DAYS YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND:
- Each committee member serves a four-year term, unless filling an unexpired term. Certain restrictions delegated by NCAA legislation may apply in the selection process. Each committee member should have a working knowledge of the sports of cross country and track and field with specific reference to rules, meet management, standards and the selection process.
- The amount of time required to serve as a member of the committee is reflected as follows (total 24-25 days):
- REGIONAL CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS -- 2 Days
- Committee members arrive at the cross country regional qualifying meets in their areas Friday and leave Saturday.
- NCAA II CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS -- 6 Days
- The committee arrives at the site Tuesday, serves through the event Saturday, and leaves Sunday.
- NCAA II INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS -- 7-8 Days
- The committee arrives at the site Sunday/Monday, serves through the event Saturday, and leaves Sunday.
- NCAA II OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS -- 8-9 Days
- The committee arrives at the site Saturday/Sunday, serves through the event Saturday, and leaves Sunday.
NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR:
- JOINT NCAA TRACK & FIELD SUMMER MEETING 4-6 Days
- The committee arrives at the site Monday, serves through Thursday noon, and leaves Thursday. The representative to the rules committee arrives Friday, serves through Thursday noon
NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR:
- 9-15 calls per year including selections. General committee calls will last 1 hour or less. Selections for Indoor Track and Outdoor track last 2-4 hours.
