Recognizing new federal confidentiality guidelines and the importance of the NCAA Injury Surveillance System (ISS) to the Association, the NCAA general counsel has assisted the Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports in the creation of the HIPPA/Buckley Amendment Consent/Waiver form. The form, which is optional for student-athletes to complete, ensures NCAA compliance with federal regulations and allows member institutions to continue to participate in the ISS (e.g., will allow institutions to provide student-athletes medical information to the NCAA via the ISS).
