Synchronized Swimming
Information Related To Adding the Sport
- Level of Participation (high school/college): Approximately 5,000 student-athletes compete in synchronized swimming nationally; currently, more than 30 institutions offer competitive synchronized swimming programs.
- Number of Student-Athletes Needed: Twelve (ideally, though only one is needed).
- Estimated Start-Up Costs: Approximately $3,000.
- Equipment Needed: Sound system, suits, warm ups and training equipment.
- Facilities Necessary: Swimming pool.
- Number of Coaches Needed: Two.
- Annual Cost of Program (including approximate coaches' salaries): Approximately $25,000 to $30,000.
- Funds/Grants Available: Matching funds up to $2,500 available from Synchro Swimming USA, with a further possibility of up to four years of matching funding.
- Typical Season (dates, duration): March through April (training in the fall).
- Remarks: Since 90 percent of all synchronized swimming participants attend college, recruitment opportunities appear plentiful.
